Must be some tough car karma in my stars...went outside this morning to find my trusty old Honda (vintage 1986) had been broken into and the dashboard completely trashed by an inept thief prying out the faceplate-less CD player. Sigh. Why do some people want something for nothing?
This is my sole surviving car since my new (old, '93 Toyota) car was totalled by an SUV a week ago Saturday. With me in it, regrettably. I really don't want to say what next? but am sorely tempted... Am trying to stay positive but having a tough time of it today. I work about a block from Biscayne Bay (the bay between Miami & Miami Beach) and yet I almost never go over there to enjoy the breeze and sun on the water. I think I'll do that tomorrow with my knitting. Maybe replenish the positive vibes..

Wonderful. And amazing as a first novel. There are some inevitably cringe-worthy scenes (if you're going to be true to the middle ages) but Franklin's ability to bring those times to life is spot-on. Another state-of-the-research book from Kurzweil and the longevity physician, Terry Grossman. I liked Fantastic Voyage better, but for sheer quality of information relevant to our health today, it's hard to beat. You can get a free (but for the shipping cost) copy at Ray and Terry's, their website that sells the supplements key to the program. As they say, they don't care if you get the supplements from them or not, just get them, take them and make the lifestyle changes. Two Dutch cops sent to Kyoto to solve a murder in Amsterdam involving the Yakusa. Van de Wetering is a 'voice' like no other. He spent several years in a Zen monastery in Kyoto himself. The entire series has been re-issued by Soho Crime and is totally wonderful. And the cover design by Cheryl Cipriani is awesome. Alice Hoffman: Practical Magic
The hardback has an illustration taken from Dante Gabriel Rossetti's Proserpine. Much nicer. Hoffman's a great storyteller. And I always want her characters to go forward to the next book. But they never do. Go read this one anyway. You're welcome.Tony Hillerman: The Mysterious West
This is a REALLY wonderful short story collection edited by Hillerman. Lord, I'm going to miss that man. All of the stories are set in the west or midwest, small towns and large. They're quirky and somewhat unexpected, especially relative to the usual work of the authors like J.A. Jance, Dana Stabenow (a bit darker), Lia Matera (chilling), etc. The true find for me is Wendy Hornsby. One of the best written stories, independent of genre, I've ever read. I've never read a more skillfully built exposition of the backstory built into the actual story. wow. I'm off to see what else of hers I can find.Charles de Lint: The Wild Wood
Re-reading this bit of loveliness from de Lint. Among other things, it's about an artist who's lost her mojo. It's apropos given that I've re-started The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.Elizabeth A. Lynn: Chronicles of Tornor 3: The Northern Girl (Chronicles of Tornor)
Found this as I was repacking ancient boxes of books. It was written in the late 70s and is flat out wonderful. It's the third book of a trilogy (the 2nd one is Dancers of Arun) I highly recommend all of them. It's Fantasy with an incredibly drawn world worth of an Ursula LeGuin, deep and quirky characters, and stay-up-all-night story telling. go. find them.Julia Cameron: The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity [10th Anniversary Edition]

Thanks to support and encouragement from Rachael and Bethany and Greta, here's my baby blog, day one... and Jean-Luc Picard's got nuthin' on me...
Bear with me, I've got a lot to figure out, not least how to pretty up this basic design and typeface and how to post photos, etc. But since this IS a knitting blog, here's what's on the needles right now:
1) The Vogue Knitting cover tank Rachael knit recently but in light blue Sirdar Rio. I was looking for a Calmer substitute for Audrey but just couldn't get gauge...lo and behold it was perfect gauge for the tank, soooo...
2) A ribby halter from a summer Tahki book (forgive me, pics later) in a luscious cotton, King Tut, in pink for Mom's upcoming birthday. She's going to be 84 and still looks smashing in a halter, how cool is that? I'm loving the feel of the King Tut and the color selection is incredible, but it does split a bit. Definitely going to knit something for myself out of this..
And just completed and a soon-to-be FO: the Side-to-Side Ribbon Pullover from the Spring 2004 IK in a lovely multi-colored Zen ribbon. All it wants is to be blocked and seamed and Woot! Woot! a new top for my jeans by the weekend...
I'm trying really hard to get these photos to post where I want them but am not having any luck so where ever they may show up they are the Vogue cover tank and the Side-to-Side Ribbon sweater from IK, here goes nothin'...well, maybe another day I'll figure this out...
Oh, and on the drooling-not-yet-knitting list: Just about everything from the Denim People book. Rosie's Yarn Cellar in Philadelphia has it and mailed it to me last week... so wonderful....
