No DSL...AGAIN

Well, no DSL again last night. The technoramuses on BellSouth's DSL techsupport said I am experiencing "intermittancy"?? Right. So FIX it. Cranky, am I? you betcha. For the record, BellSouth's DSL service isn't the cheapest nor the fastest and it certainly is not reliable. Comc*ast may be getting my vote shortly.  And at 10 pm at night, I am not inclined to sit on the phone for hours trying to sort it all out. Sure enough, this morning all was again well. But there's this thing called work for which I need to leave the house at a good hour.

Enough. Ma Bell's idiot child is not worth my time nor your eyes, kind reader. However, if any of you more technically inclined folks have any ideas about how to solve this B.S., I'd surely welcome them.

I have sooo many goodies to share with you but must await DSL at home to upload the pics and tell the tales.   But for now, go read Greta's posting of today if you haven't already.  Gift of the Magi pales by comparison to her Gift of the Boy Bird story.   Go.  Blessings are everywhere. 

PSSST!! DA BOY'S GOTTA BLOG...

There's been a bit of blog envy happening around here of late...ahem. So for the first night of Channukah, I got Da Boy his very own Blog! So go here and say hello and help him feel the bloglove. He's not too sure about how all this works but he's lovin' it lots so far after typing his first post...He just plopped down in bed with his nightly book but not before shouting out that he feels just like Walter Mitty (Secret Life of... etc. fer all youse younger types...heh). Of course he doesn't know I'm posting this but we'll just let that be our little surprise, eh?  Mwah!!

One Thing Per Night

So am I the only one who seems to be able to accomplish only one thing per weeknight?  Mission: find two 5-shelf cheapo white bookshelves to replace the two destroyed by window leakage while sitting peacefully in their boxes during hurricane season.  Now try to do this in the absence of any IK*A within 800 or so miles. And in the presence of a code of ethics that precludes ever setting foot in stores owned by the Evil Empire. Accomplished? Bought two more plastic 4-drawer storage bins for the endless stash. AND pink grapefruit scented dish detergent. AND unscented laundry detergent. Yes, I am a woman of many contradictions.  Heh. So now I'm too tired or aimless or both to even empty the trunk of the car. Or load the new anti-virus software that finally arrived. Or... the list continues. I think that I shall knit. Hsst! But soft... 'tis the Kochoron that calls my name...

Oops. Almost forgot the hopeful news. It seems there is a knitting group somewhere in greater Miami that gets together every other Monday. And at least one expat Bostonian and one expat Noo Yawker (soon to be joined by another) that are interested in starting a Miami Beach SnB. Woot!

along with you?" sez the Boy as we're walking out to the neighborhood cafe. Silly Boy.  For some reason this has been bothering him lately. Must ask about that some time. Heh.  I'm loving how portable the Kochoron Irish Hiking scarf is. And because of its portability, it's been a quick knit.  No pictures because three feet of the scarf isn't much different than one foot of the scarf. Pictures, I promise, upon completion.

Won't tell till I can show you... and no excuses, ma'am, just sheer Sunday night laziness to blame for no photos tonight.  I just watched Terminal with Tom Han*ks and an almost unrecognizably thin Catharine Z*ta-Jones.  It was typical steven spi*lb*rg with a good ending but there's no crime in that. And every little part is well acted. Tom Hanks totally steals the show, though. It's good for knitting, a real feel-good movie. and so to bed. Hope your weekend was just lovely.

Heresy

I've been reading not knitting. I know, I know. Christmas and Channukah wait for no woman. But there was this new book out by Tony Hillerman and an even better one out by Eliot Pattison, Beautiful Ghosts, go g**gle it. Amazing, as his books always are. And then I re-read a borderline romance-ish novella called Originally Human by Eileen Wilks in a compilation called Cravings by Laurell K. Hamilton. Fun and with a great spin on succubi and their place in the realms. And the newish book in the Shakespeare, Arkansas mystery series by Charlaine Harris. These latter ones are definitely to the fluff side. It's not that anything is particularly stressful right now, just that I'm resisting all that's on the to-do list. And reading is such a delicious escape.

And for even more fun, Sabine, my ex-SIL, sent me a beautiful, tiny advent calendar from Germany.  It is the size of a small greeting card. I had never seen one until my first year with the ex-. He had Sabine send us one and explained it all to me. How in their childhood when their father had been lucky enough to find work (post WWII northern Germany), the advent calendar had little chocolates behind the doors. Kaete, their mother, would let them eat the chocolate first thing in the morning! Unheard of... Christmas magic for sure.

Maybe this will be the year I manage to finish a scarf for lovely Sabine. I'm thinking the blue Maggi Ireland mohair loops yarn. Sky blue to match her eyes...
