Guess what, peeps? You know how everyone has been complaining that Silk Garden is a scratchy, twig-laden, badly spun, knotty piece of crap these days? And that maybe it is because of a new spinning mill or some such? NOT SO. I just unearthed a UFO from, oh, around 1995 and it is the most lovely Silk Garden you can ever imagine. Ready?
It is so incredibly soft because it is 45% silk, 45% Kid Mohair, and 10% lamb's wool. WOOT!!! Peeps, you just have to come over and pet this stuff! And I have a luscious, brioche rib, two strands of this bliss held together sweater that lacks only about 2/3rds of a sleeve to be finished! It is knit front to back in one piece, pick up the stitches and knit down each sleeve. And get this, no worrying about color matching because evidently all the skeins start at the same color place. I deduce this because the start of the second sleeve top is identical to the other finished sleeve despite it obviously using 2 new skeins of yarn. And I was such a DORK of a weenie inexpert knitter that I didn't know what I had.
Oh, yes. This is a very auspicious end to the evening. Pictures tomorrow. Did I mention how incredibly mooshy and soft and faintly redolent of lanolin this stuff is? And I remember now that I probably have 4 or 5 untouched 10 skeins each bags of this stuff of the same vintage, in the mud room storage?
AND I just found 6 skeins (3 each in of two colorways) of Noro Cotton Kuryon, also lovely and soft but in even more vivid colors and of 70% soft cotton and 30% wool.
Heh. Don't hate me because I have beautiful stash, 'k? (ok. if you had the day I did you wouldn't begrudge me the temporary gloat, eh)
I would kill for 6 skeins of Cotton Kureyon! All I have is about half a skein made into a sad little ball.

I wish I could fondle the silk garden! wouldn't that be cool if technology allowed us to do that? Hmmm, so the older stuff has more silk...I bet it's incredable.
