I freely confess, the only knitting that's going on here right now is that which occurs while waiting for doctors. Eh. And 3 inches of red cotton twist knitting is not that riveting, we agree? Mais, oui. Why so French today, you ask? Go see Lee-Ann at Fuzzy Logic and you'll see why. Le sigh. Her 101 things put me in mind of a certain ex of the inimitably Francais persuasion. Damn, don't the good things only always jump out in retrospect? We will NOT discuss sex here today, no, we will not. Ahem. Nor certain tracks of Enigma. Heh.
But if I have been only so-so on the knitting front I have been reading. Tiger OS X, peeps. I'm new to the Mac world and there is much to learn. I am missing certain things from my years with the Anti-Christ (spawn of Gates) and I just know the solutions are out there. Speaking of which, does anyone know if the freeware Open Office that's available for apple pcs is TOTALLY compatible and interchangeable when it comes to ms office word and excel documents? I would dearly love to avoid fattening the coffers of the anti-christ further by buying the Office suite for mac. And Catherine D? if you're reading here, I can't Ichat yet because despite signing up for .mac it is blocking me from registering. and does anyone have a thought about how iPhoto stacks up against Photoshop?
'k. nuff geekhood. I did buy (at full retail price, yes, I supported my LYS to the tune of $40 extra dollars compared to WoolNeedlework prices) 4 skeins of Colinette Giotto in Lapis to make this, well, I can't find an image so will take a photo and post later. It's a wrap cardi that I hope will be perfect for the over-airconditioned summer-in-Miami dwellings. (Once again confirming my knitterly ADHD.) Ah, but it's luscious.
Wish me luck, peeps. Am seeing three new practioners in the next 2 days in search of a thaw for my increasingly immobile shoulders/arms. Still trying not to freak out. If the lesson is increased compassion for and empathy with people with disabling health conditions, I am so there.
iPhoto is OK for lots of people, but as a digital imaging geek, I'd never give up Photoshop. I do use iPhoto to capture pictures and put them on my iPod Photo (ok, I said I was a geek). My mother has been playing with publishing and printing albums using iPhoto and has been happy with it.
I've never used iChat (since I'm also a Unix geek, I have bad memories of security flaws in the early chat programs). But I just started it up and did get logged in through .mac. I skipped all the Jabber and Bonjour setups, if that helps. I'll call my mom now to see if she can connect to me :)

Oh yeah, I had to buy Office for the Mac because I needed a real copy of Powerpointless for a project, so I haven't checked out the open source stuff.

OK, I got iChat to work and amused my mom a lot :)

What a bummer about the shoulders! My Tyson has helped to free the right should which is always close to the frozen point.
My heart goes out to LeeAnn and I hope she can find the right doctor.
Hugs!

I'm a Linux geek in love with the GIMP (open source answer to Photoshop) -- haven't needed Photoshop in a couple of years now. I use OpenOffice pretty religiously and as of yet haven't had an issue with it not being fully compatible except for macros, which I don't tend to use anyway. So sorry to hear about your shoulder :(

I'm such a dork, I had to go find out what Open Office is. Could be interesting.... I've never used Photoshop, but I do know that iPhoto doesn't offer a whole lot, but then again, I don't need a whole lot. Guess I'm a lot simpler than i think.
Hope someone can figure out what to do about your shoulders. And French guys? We had a French neighbor that knocked my socks off. Not good to have a sexy French neighbor, no sir.
