So the richest, most powerful country in the world CANNOT FUCKING MOBILIZE HELP FOR OVER ONE WEEK??!!? Was nothing learned from Hurricane Andrew? How can it be "just like Somalia down here" with armed gangs ruling the streets?
After we get help and permanent solutions going, we need to move to impeach for complete lack of leadership. And yes, we goddamned well DO NEED TO POINT THE FINGER OF BLAME. I just cannot say any more.
Oh, yes, I can. That when I can set aside feelings of helplessness and rage and still my heart and mind, I am sending love and light to all those waiting and all those helping. And there will be a yarn diet here with every yarn $$ going to the Red Cross for the forseeable future. O my country...
Amen, sister. Preach it.

Abso-freaking-lutely. It is such a disgrace, and to think that Bush recently said that the results of the effort were "not acceptable". Who does he think he can blame?
The rest of the world is watching this and shaking their heads. I've never been so ashamed of my country.

I'm totally with you--our government has compounded the misery and proved itself utterly inept. I could go on, but you said it all.
I am, though, glad to know you came through the storm OK.

I was away when it hit and only saw newspaper coverage in the last 2 days. I thought about you and hoped you were OK. I think there are a lot of questions that need to be answered about the response (or lack of it). For now, on a personal level, I am pleased you are safe and hope things are getting better for you.

Yep, to all. You said it perfectly.

Amen, sister.

As much as I love what the Red Cross stands for, I have to admit they are very slow to mobilize as well. I volunteer for them as much as possible, and any time there's some kind of emergency like this, most of the heads are running around like crazy people not knowing what to do, and they leave their volunteers waiting for hours or days for some direction. Most of the time it's too late to do anything when they finally figure out what to do because the volunteers are either too tired to do anything, or got sick of waiting around for them to figure things out that they leave, or they just get turned away. It's really quite sad that those that are willing to help others feel as though there isn't much they can do to help because of beauracracy issues.
And let me not get started on the topic of politicians....
